Today, we had a meeting with Peter to discuss our refined CAS proposal. Our revisions include a new supervisor and a focus shift to the topic of homelessness. The following is a copy of our proposal:
CAS Refined Proposal:
Someone we can contact for direct initiative with our care packages is Heather Choe. As a member of the Little Flock Church, she partakes in a number of activities addressing the poverty throughout NYC. We hope to become a part of this.
Previously, our CAS group wanted to created coloring books that reflect on modern day issues that would then be distributed to children in orphanages and shelters. Initially, we wanted to create a coloring book with the help of our peer, Tatiana Econonopolis, whose uncle owns a printing company. However, we realized that it would be better to use the money that we have fundraised to create more Creativity Packages with more supplies inside of them. Instead of simply giving coloring books, we will now design our own coloring sheets that reflect on modern day issues such as racism and social inequality. This sheets will be printed and put inside of the Creativity Package along with coloring supplies such as crayons and coloring pencils.
The feedback that we got from Peter was unexpected, but necessary. He asked questions that addressed why we were seeking church affiliation and why that was relevant to the problem we were investigating. He also encouraged us to search for real evidence and people that have direct experience with the homeless. This set us back in our project, but we all agreed that this revelation was needed to truly learn through this experience.
