For this week, we plan to sketch out visualizations for the coloring book based on what we learned from the meeting with the Partnership for the Homeless. I’m in charge of the main settings in the book so for today, I drew a hotel conference room because Mercedes mentioned that families are placed in commercial hotel rooms and parents occasionally sneak their child or children in the conference room as a quiet place to do homework. I thought about the perspective and orientation in which the child could be portrayed as lonely yet diligent while working. With the point of view from one end of the table, a lone chair is seen at the opposite end; I believe that a child can be sitting in that chair so it looks as though the empty room is engulfing him or her.
In terms of the technical coloring book format, I made sure to include as many lines and objects as possible so there are more divided spaces to color in. The conference room is the most simple setting and as the storyline becomes finalized we can add to the drawings overall.
