Revisions on Storyline

Previously, we came up with a number of possible scenes, but none of them were definitive nor did they have any chronological order. Now that we have some scenes to work with and some possible sketches, we can come up with more specific scenes that are sorted out to make more sense and further develop the storyline.

  1. Introduce the family (six children, all variety of ages, and a mother and father). Previously, we had a family of three with one child, but we thought that it would be much more realistic and the struggle would be even greater if there was a large family to manage. However, depicting the life of the entire family would be too much. Thus, while there will be a big family, the story will only revolve around the life of one child. We chose the child who will be at the age of around 8-9 because this is also close to the age group that we want to target with the coloring books.

  2. Depict family living at home, everyone doing different activities throughout the house. Children and parents doing chores, some reading a book, but make the house being extremely small and cramped. Raises issue of homeless meaning “doubled up” or “tripled up.”

  3. Children go to school (via walking), somewhere on school to show which borough this story is taking place in

  4. Filed to be moved to commercial hotel, signing applications (maybe close up of possible application of checking off the box of preferred borough).

  • Commercial hotel - playground socializing (where the social network relies for Richard), conference room to do homework, small room when living with rest of family

  • Denied bussing --> forced to take train to travel across boroughs with parents (try to put time in there, very early in the morning and very late in evening), where child is also doing hw on the train

  • Studying at school

  • Blending in with the other kids in the classroom

  • One day, child throws a tantrum given the pressures he’s experiencing, teacher automatically assumes he has a mental illness, but after a while teacher and student develops a close relationship and teacher raises awareness to the school
