Bowery Mission Proposal

Today, the rest of my CAS group and I decided to bring our updated project proposal to Peter. After our last meeting, we realized that there was still much that we had to do in order properly complete the process. Peter made us aware that we needed to go more in depth with the “investigation” phase of our project. As a result (and as mentioned in previous reflections), we sent emails out to various homeless organizations in order to learn more about the homeless population in NYC. In our refined proposal, we included an thread of emails with the Bowery Mission––an organization that looked very promising. Unfortunately, we have not yet gotten a confirmation from them to allow us to work together, so the partnership is still tentative. We were able to hand in the proposal (Peter accepted it), but he said that we definitely needed to get a confirmation letter in. Hopefully, they will respond to us soon. Something else that we need to figure out is who our supervisor is going to be. Since we haven’t solidified our partnership yet, we haven’t been able to ask anyone to be our supervisor. I really hope that we can get everything together soon.
On another note, I was glad that Peter made us rethink our plan because there is so much that we don’t know about the homeless population living in New York. How can we help them if we don’t even understand them? How can we raise awareness if we aren’t even sure what we should make people aware of? Whatever happens, I am looking forward to the insight that we will gain, and the steps that we will take in order to help give a voice to those who are homeless.
